Vesna’s Priorities for Lowell
Economic Development & Small Businesses
Vensa supports initiatives that drive economic growth, create good-paying jobs, and empower local entrepreneurs. He will work to cut red tape, enhance workforce development programs, and invest in a thriving downtown.
Affordable Housing & Neighborhood Revitalization
As housing costs rise, Vensa is committed to expanding affordable housing options while preserving the character of Lowell’s neighborhoods. He advocates for responsible development and fair housing policies to ensure that every resident has a place to call home.
Education & Youth Empowerment
A strong education system is key to a thriving community. Vensa will work to strengthen public schools, invest in improvements to school facilities, and create opportunities for youth engagement and mentorship.
Public Safety & Community Well-Being
Vensa believes in a proactive approach to public safety that fosters trust between law enforcement and the community. He supports increased investment in mental health resources, community policing, and initiatives that address the root causes of crime.
Infrastructure
Investing in Lowell’s infrastructure is essential for long-term growth. Vensa will advocate for better roads, public transit improvements, and sustainable development that protects our environment for future generations.
Homelessness
This is an ongoing issue in Lowell, but Vesna believes that we can do better. In January 2022, he advocated for the establishment of Lowell’s first Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which was finally adopted in November 2024. It was seeded with $3 million in federal funds, and with additional funds we can expand affordable housing in Lowell to help mitigate the crisis. He will continue to work closely with Lowell’s non-profits advocating for a housing-first solution.
Sustainability
As an advocate for the Lowell Forward Master Plan, Vesna acknowledges the importance of preparing our communities, both current and future, to adopt clean and decarbonized energy. He was a vocal advocate for the creation of the first Sustainability Division in the DPW and remains committed to Lowell’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2035.
